LOGO DESIGN
< Back
We do not offer logo design in-house, unlike other companies who say they do, outsource the work and charge you a premium, we would never do that. So, we have outlined some important factors to consider when looking for a logo designer and then detailed below who we recommend for this service. Please note that we do NOT receive any financial gain from the logo designers that we recommend, we are solely basing our recommendations on high quality logo design, you are of course free to use whoever you wish.
If you mention Stationery Direct when contacting any of the recommended logo designers then you will receive discount on their standard prices. Once you have your logo it can then be supplied to us where we can design your stationery, brochures, flyers etc (if required).
Your logo is a VERY important part of your business, before a potential customer even walks through your door your logo will give that customer an impression of who they are dealing with, it can make your company appear large, small, fun, serious, professional, un-professional!...the list goes on. Your logo is the starting point of your whole corporate image, the colours, typography and style of your logo will often dictate how the rest of your company’s literature will look.
As with anything, you get what you pay for and logo design is no different. If you spend £20 then the chances are that your logo will look like it cost £20, if you want to give customers a good first impression of your business then do not scrimp on logo design. Be wary of very cheap logo designers, some copy existing logos and adjust them to fit in with your business, this is copyright infringement and you may not realise this until you get the Solicitors letter through the door. Another trick of the cheaper logo designer is to replicate logos which means 5, 10 or even 100 businesses may all have the same logo as you.
What people don't realise is that logos take time to design and there are MANY factors to be taken into consideration by a professional logo designer, how will the logo look when printed? How will the logo look when re-sized?. A professional logo designer will spend time researching your main competitors to see how they represent themselves, they will have a brain storming session creating maybe 4 or 5 logo options, tweaking and adjusting them with your input until they have the right logo for your business.
We have not created this page to make you spend thousands on a logo, far from it, we understand that money is hard earned, however, from personal experience and from the experience of a large number of our customers it is more cost effective in the long run to pay that litte bit extra now and receive a professional result with no future hassles.
So how much should I pay? Logo design is usually priced depending on the customers requirements, however, as a rough guide you should budget anywhere from £50 to £100 to convert an existing low resolution logo to the industry standard vector format, obviously this can cost more or less depending on the complexity of your existing logo. To design a logo from scratch you will be looking at anything from £150 to £500, obviously this can cost more or less depending on your requirements. Do take the time to read our "Top Tips" below and make sure you take them into consideration when choosing your logo designer.
Logo Design Top Tips:
1) The best file format for your logo is the industry standard vector format as this is the most widely accepted file type which is very flexible in its uses, for example, having your logo in vector format means that your logo can be enlarged/reduced with little or no loss in clarity/sharpness. Not all logo designers use vector based software so ensure that your chosen logo designer does.
2) One of the most important aspects prior to employing a logo designer, is to ensure that on completion of your logo you will be assigned copyright in writing, if they don't do this then you do not own the logo, they do! Imagine yourself on the receiving end of legal action in 10 years time when they are claiming for back dated royalties!!
3) Any reputable logo designer will have a portfolio showcasing logos that they have designed, this will give you an idea as to their design skills. Don't be afraid to contact their customers to ask what their services were like.
4) If possible have a good look around and see what colours and logos you like and don't like, this will make your chosen logo designers job much easier and help keep your costs down. Most logo designers will ask this question, so being prepared with examples will speed up the design process.
